Start by questioning yourself about what you do. Are you a frequent traveler? If so, find a card that offer points and discounts you can use on rental cars and hotel rooms. Are you the type who pays off their balance in full every month? If you have a balance from month to month, then low-interest credit card offers would suit you since reward cards tend to pull in higher interest rates. Cash-back rewards? Now there is a lasting value card. These cards retain value compared to points whose value can change. While points are restricted to certain goods and services, cash can be used anywhere. Avoid the common 1% cash back, you are better rewarded with the 2-5% cash back. Are you a big charger or a little charger? American Express Blue Cash Card is for frequent chargers and these people can benefit from this card. The Chase Visa Signature Card is geared more for those small chargers. Keep in mind the rewards cards carry a higher in rates than the typical credit card and if they charge an annual fee, refuse them. Do your homework, what looks like to good to be true, probably is.

The thing to keep in mind is that this is possible only thanks to the research. So what is it that you must look for when looking for the best credit card deals? Here’s a list of what you should be concentrating on when looking what you can find online.

1.       The interest rates applicable are one of the major factors that should help you decide whether you want to take a credit card or not. These are generally written in extremely small letters so that people don’t notice it. These interest rates can create a havoc in your life so be careful of what you get.

2.       Look for the various schemes that they are offering you and read up as much as possible about them

3.       Find online reviews of the credit card company you are considering and check whether it is a positive reply or not.

4.       Read the terms and conditions carefully and get hold of important clauses so that they don’t fool you.

5.       Compare credit cards and their various offers. This always helps in the decision making stage.

Using credit card unfortunately does not come with a manual. Credit card companies fill potential applicants with applications and pre-approvals, but no manuals on how to stay out of debt. You may wonder why this is – but credit card companies do not make money from the consumers that repay their debts each month, credit card companies make money from the consumers that carry a balance from month to month.

Here are some rules that every consumer should take advantage of while using their first credit card:

Never Miss a Payment
Missing a payment towards the credit card can cost you. Each time that a payment is missed on the account the card holder is charged a flat fee of $39.00. Keep in mind that this fee is charged for each billing period that a payment is missed. Aside from this fee, the credit card company will often increase the interest rate of the consumer because of the missed payment – remember, one missed payment could cost you the interest rate!

Don’t Spend More than You Can Afford
There are certain things that you should not put on the credit card. These items that are variable expenses and that the consumer has no intention of repaying within the month should be avoided. Everything from vacations to luxury items or clothing and gifts should not be placed on the credit card because if the consumer is unable to pay cash for these items than there is a good chance that they should not be purchased.
